Improvements and fixes
Here are some screenshots of the game.
I just beat the campaign (and perfected 26 of 28 missions) and overall it was a very good experience. The combat is good and the variety of levels and characters kept it interesting. I encountered a few bugs, but nothing game breaking, and support for the game is amazing. The one major bug I reported already has a fix for the next app update. My one and only complaint is that the game feels a little short. It is impossible to collect enough chips (resources) to fully upgrade all your characters. There is also no way to purchase all of the weapon upgrades without a crazy amount of grinding and replaying levels. I really think the campaign is about 10 levels to short. With about 10 more levels I feel like it would be just long enough to 100% all your characters and gear if you took the time to get perfects on all the levels. Once again I highly recommend anyone play the game and keep a look out for an update which adds a few more levels.
The game is fun enough to hold my attention for a few hours. The concept is good but the execution seems to be a bit lacking. I have a few complaints. This is a turn-based strategy game, but you don’t know your chances of hitting your target. It’s very easy to accidentally move your character to a wrong spot, especially if you want another character to move first. What happens is that you want to move X character out of the way for Y to go through. Y is currently selected, so you tap on character X. Then Y just walks to a square adjacent to X instead because your tap was slightly off. You can get around this by selecting who to control by tapping on their portrait on the upper left but this is less intuitive. The story is pretty simple. At least so far. You’re on another planet uncovering the mystery of what happened to a human base that is now ravaged by fairly unintelligent aliens. Interesting enough for a strategy game. I have only played about 4 hours of this game. I have the entire crew now. All the characters are pretty one dimensional, but maybe they get more interesting? I may update this as I play through the game. Maybe I’ll feel a little differently about it in the future. But for now, it’s a good time sink for when you’re bored. The gameplay has just enough depth to encourage you to think through your decisions while at the same time not demanding a lot of your attention. It’s a good game to have on the go.
I really enjoy this style of turn-based squad-level strategy game and this is a great implementation of the style. I had loads of fun playing through the campaign, which includes 28 levels. I do have one question however. Having finished the campaign, I am now playing the daily missions. The daily missions’ menu gives the player an option to spend credits to unlock additional missions. I’ve done this a couple of times but have no idea how to actually play the unlocked missions. I must be missing something obvious. I can get to a list of the extra mission that includes check marks next to the ones I’ve unlocked. But tapping on those missions does nothing and I can’t figure out how to load them.
If you are a fan of turn-based grid tactics games like Xcom, it is definitely worth your while to play this one. There won’t be much to look for so far as story and character development (and the dialog is kind of annoying), but the combat system is what is featured and it is executed well. Set the difficulty to the harder of the two settings, and even though the first short act of introductory levels will make it seem as if the game is overly basic and too easy, things will rapidly start to get more and more complex and challenging (and enjoyable) around stage 11. To the developers, if you were to start a Kickstarter-type thing or preorder-based Steam project for a sequel (maybe you’re already working on that), I for one would be glad to chip in because I think you could have a 5 star, really genuinely great game with some more detailed and artistic visuals, slicker upgrade trees for the characters and weapons, and more engaging storytelling. Thanks for the game!
The character go to a square that I didn’t want them to go to more often than they go to the one I wanted. Often if i want to shoot an enemy and select the wnemy, the character will just walk up right next to the enemy instead of shooting them like I wanted. If that uses up too many action points, then Now I can’t shoot AND I am right next to the enemy. Annd then there’s the unreadable without a microscope text. Why are Apple Arcade games not made for phones? This is just another game to add to my list of unplayable Apple Arcade games with text too small to read. Is it really hard to program large font sizes in an iOS game or something. I love tactics style strategy games so I was sure I would like this game but from the opening screen it already is convincing me not to play it.
UPDATE - there is an error on Gordan’s final ability - it says +20 damage, but should say +20% damage - that’s a big difference! I don’t know why this game is so low rated. It’s a great and simple tactics game! Guys, it’s a game - the storyline doesn’t have to be riveting. It’s fun - you walk into a place, shoot em up tactical style, dialogue is funny, there is a hidden secret to every area, and overall the game is a ton of fun! Wish there would be more of these types of strategy games in Apple Arcade, it’s simple and fun which is what a game should be. Also, controls are fine - idk if the dev made tweaks since people have complained but the guys do exactly what I want them to do. Re: not knowing if you will miss the target or not is also explained - some characters like the engineer have 100% accuracy, and some like the main character are less accurate the further away you are. Idk what people are saying but great job to the team who made this game, I’m really enjoying it.
/EDIT: Appreciate the developer response, which is very responsive to this feedback. Upgraded to five stars. :-) The developers did a great job infusing a lot of personality, good gameplay and some spaghetti-western nostalgia into this title. It was enjoyable to clear thru. That said, I do not see much replay value, and the game itself felt too limited. Since it is highly unlikely you will receive all awards and bonuses on your first attempt at a mission, you will essentially need to play each mission two or three times in a row to get the currency you need to upgrade your characters. But, even if you max all of that out, you cannot complete the upgrades. I can see where perhaps the developers thought this might encourage choices and new game attempts. But in practice, it just feels like there is too little content. It feels like a great game where I only got a preview or trial version. Something is missing here.
SPOILERS AHEAD ______________________________________________ So, beautifully done game: animations, game style, and mechanics are all done amazingly. But the music is kinda lacking? I fell that it is boring there isn’t much depth to it. But onto what the title says, what does the 3 question marks mean is there more content coming in a later update. I finished the encyclopedia and thought that would let me into the level. What does the giant Mineral-X octopus mean? I just have so many questions about the end and would just like a response even if it’s just that more content is coming in a later update.
Literally my only real complaint is that the characters don’t move intelligently within the context of the map. What I mean by that is that even if you have “safe” tiles available to move through to reach your destination they will sometimes move through tiles that damage them. Specifically looking at the level with lava geysers. Really cool when I tell a character to go to a tile and he needlessly passes through a lava geyser to get there even though there are safe paths available. 👍 Other than that I love it though. Hoping for a sequel. 🤞
The game itself is fun to play. A few things I would love to see improved. Single player campaign is too short and impossible to collect enough chips to fully upgrade all characters. Another planet campaign would be great with more weapons upgrades. The other item that can be improved is adding bots to co-op mode. I have tried several times and cannot get paired with someone to play even after waiting many minutes. So it is like 50% of the game is unplayable.
First look on this turn-based strategy game in Apple Arcade. This game is old school, you control a team of heroes with unique ability and fight the alien. The game is good and recommended. However, it is a old school game, you would not find any WOW ...
