Here are some screenshots of the game.
Im not a huge fan of most big name strategy games, but this one really grabbed my interest and i was happy with it the whole way thru. Not sure if its only true of the Apple Arcade editions but i really enjoyed the economics of XP and things (there are no in game purchases plus the rates you accumulate coins and hero XP are so perfectly tuned. It really made the whole thing enjoyable when I would feel like i was about to be shaken down by some sketch-o app devs making me pay to play to get passed some ridiculously difficult level and find that wasnt the case here, i just needed to try a few alternative strats and, while it might be challenging, wasnt going to be stuck for weeks with constant reminders that i can just pay up and skip over this one. No, this game is awesome i think the devs have a great sense of humor too with the wooly mammoth that takes a dump when you click him. hah.
One of the best strategy games I’ve seen in a while. It is difficult and makes you think about tower placements at every level. I do suggest changing the troop tower and every tower for that matter. The troops are too weak until later in the game it’s self and absolutely are too weak in late game. I use them to stop the progression of the enemy so my strong hitting towers can do something. The problem is I have to put 3 or 4 of the troop towers and one or two hard hitting towers (usually archers, for the speed), and that was the majority of the game. I think there should be an option to have weak troops on every tower and on the regular troop towers have the option to have more troops and maybe tweak the damage because of how many troops there will be.
Update from 3 stars to 5. Despite its issues I genuinely enjoyed it. Take a break if a level is too tough. + Before Emberspike the game is well balanced and varying levels offer a nice challenge. Enemies are diverse and force varying building setups. Heroes feel weighty and can change the tide when placed well. Specific strategies WILL get you through levels. - The game suffers from an insane difficulty spike later on. Heroes end up being unbalanced in later games (I'm looking at you, pirate.) Challenge forces SIGNIFICANT grind to purchase items which messes with pacing and halts all meaningful progress. Boss mechanic/strategy comes from nowhere. Beating levels require a 20+ minute battle with no save progress or checkpoint system throughout and if you lose then tough luck.
I like this version better than the original Kingdom Rush (which I also enjoy). It’s so hard to find great TD games in the App Store (Castle Creeps is another that I enjoyed). Imaginative levels with lovely animation. Lots of replayability, as each level has 3 challenges once you unlock them after beating the regular battle mode. It’s fun discovering the special hero abilities and deciding which ones to use for a given level. There are some issues that would make it better. Why are most of the heroes locked until after you beat all the main levels, instead of progressively unlocking them? Why are most of the heroes useless? I enjoy trying them out, but end up going back to the same ones that actually help defeat levels. All in all, I love this game and have spent many hours playing. I’m close to beating all levels fully! But not quite! I try to find ways to get through levels without using special items. I may have to break down and use them, since some of these levels are impossible!
This is the best tower defense game ever made and here's why: ... I don't really wanna write a long review but the point is the gameplay is great the game is very long and fun and offers plenty of entertainment and good graphics are detail a lot of creative levels with many strategies now all that's missing is KR origins if that comes out on Apple Arcade I will actually quit my life and live inside my phone for the rest. If your worried it's just another boring tower defense game your right it's just another boring tower defense game but addicting and challenge only 0.01 percent capable of getting all achievements
I have six children and enjoyed playing this game initially. However, the deeper I got into the game, the darker it became. Women getting sacrificed into a pit of lava? Check. Necromancers and black magic and spells? Check. Enemies that reanimate and poisonous fumes? Check. I love a good real time strategy game and tower defense, but I would recommend not exposing kids to this, unless we want them to turn out like… well, normal. I fully believe that dark magic, witches, necromancers etc exist which I suppose is why this game really hit home. Dark like reading the news. I hope the developer comes out with a family friendly version with the same engine. Not recommended for families of the Light of Jesus. Otherwise.. well.. garbage in garbage out. Sorry to say.
Tower defense games are my favorite. PvZ, Fieldrunners, etc. This game is generally great, but I eventually hit a point where it becomes so difficult that I couldn’t proceed. You can grind for crystals to buy power-ups, but you can’t grind to improve your towers/heroes. So I could theoretically grind and progress, but I’m a casual player and that gets really boring. This game would have a much longer play lifetime if the difficulty could be addressed. Maybe I need a super easy mode, I don’t know. But grinding for one-time power ups is boring/frustrating so I’m not playing this game as much as I used to.
I genuinely love the kingdom rush series and have played most (maybe all?) entires in the series. Frontiers is yet another great iteration of this fantastic tower defense. The one thing keeping me from rating 5 stars is the battles need the option to save and quit after each round. Later battles can really drag on and it just does not fit the mobile gaming culture to spend 20+ minutes playing a game without being able to leave the app. This is a great feature I’ve seen in other mobile tower defense games and I’d love to see it added to Kingdom Rush.
I am a massive fan of the kingdom rush games and have bought and beaten every single one and have obtain a three star rating on almost every single level in all four games. Currently I am on Nazerus gate and I can’t believe how difficult it is. I lowered the difficulty to the easiest setting and I am getting absolutely walloped. I noticed a significant difficulty spike early on but this is insane. Again I am a kingdom rush veteran but I have spent over an hour trying to beat this one early game level to absolutely no avail. I don’t know if they spiked the difficulty since this version is free since it’s arcade or what but you guys gotta do something about this.
After the last wave comes and the ghoul emerges, I battled until it splattered into different pieces. Before it could reassemble I dropped the Fat Boy bomb and then everything just kept fighting without the splattered pieces taking any damage, just on a continuous fighting loop, sitting there. When I moved the soldiers to disengage, the splattered pieces moved up to the main area where the ghoul normally reassembles but when they got there they just disappeared. After that nothing happened. The level didn’t end but yet no new enemies ever emerged. This is a super-frustrating bug after working so hard to find a strategy for this level and spending so much for a weapon that basically ruined the level.
