It used to be five stars for me until you had to pay coins to see the wrong letters sounds stupid, but why to go from being free to see what was wrong to having to pay for it
The previous app was not perfect. It was a little buggy and the puzzles were dated and often repetitive. However, it was very low stress and was an excellent game if you needed to kill 5-10 minutes. This new update completely ruined it. The coin system is completely unnecessary and ruins the experience. All I want to play is a straightforward crossword puzzle. Now when I open the app I can't even get 15 seconds in before being subject to "competing" for coins and prizes. I have no idea what the developers were thinking with this update. Because it's on Apple Arcade, it's not even like you can milk money out of people like games with similar prize systems. That said, I would not be surprised if this is the arcade version of a game that you intend to release on the App Store that's going to implement all these freemium tropes with the requirement to spend real money to keep playing. It's so frustrating that I have to delete this game now. I'll check back in a month or two to see if any positive updates get released.
What was once a quick and fun way to get your crossword fix in has become a visually unappealing , noisy, and otherwise outright assaulting experience. All I wanted was to solve words. Now I have unwanted coins, daily visit goals, and sound/graphics that would make Las Vegas blush. Type one word and suddenly a new goal appears! Get coins! Rocket Rush! Progress bars on every little thing! PvP with people you care nothing for! This is an enormous step backwards but thankfully there are no shortage of other crossword apps out there. This one’s getting deleted, STAT.
like the title says. this game became boring to me almost immediately because it does not challenge you in any way. get used to typing the word omaha, because they are obsessed with including it — its an answer for 4 of the first 50 puzzles. i saw other repeated prompts as well, but none stuck out to me as much as that one. would be good for a 5 year old, maybe, but all of the pop culture references are way out of spec for a child. unclear who the target audience for this game is due to difficulty and reference mismatches.
It gets harder. After 30 or so puzzles they mix in a few harder longer ones. It gets really tough after 300 or so. I k ow that’s a ton but my retired father played that many.
So much extra junk that gets in the way of the crossword puzzles. This use to be a great app to fire up and kill some time, but now it's throwing all kinds of extra junk at me. Coins, rockets, daily bonuses, and more. They want to be another king-whatever and ruined the ability to fire up the app, solve a puzzle and move on to the next puzzle. So sad to see it happen...
I miss just being able to do fun crossword puzzles without the bells and whistles jumping up at me. I wish there was a Zen mode where one could just play the puzzles and not have the rest. For the people who like the new bells and whistles they can happily have them. I’d be a zen player. At this point I don’t even want to launch the app anymore.
This game is awesome. It helps me find out new things that you’d even know I knew and it helps me understand what crossword puzzles are.
I enjoyed this game so much until the update that added daily quests and awards and whatever. It interrupts play and then I can't exit that screen without closing the app and reopening. Very annoying.
New updated ruined this game. Before it was a great set of crossword puzzles. Now it’s coins and constantly interrupts the game to flash something across the screen and some extra game and coins coins coins. I’ve been playing it for years. Not sure how long unless it can just be a crossword game again. Such a waste.
