Enough has been said in other reviews about what’s annoying in this game. But it emotionally impresses you at least enough to warrant taking the time to write a review about it, which is a validation that it has the potential to be a hit, if changes are made. So I’ll focus my review on tips for the developer to not consider their investment lost: 1. Having an Irish Jewish protagonist be friends with a devout South Asian Muslim is reflective of society today and not the issue; it’s done subtly in so many other games. What is the issue in this game is that the entire character development doesn’t gel with the storyline. Consider reimagining certain aspects of the myth all the way through to the ending you are creating before writing. 2. That when Mr. Jenkins catches up with you in the graveyard during the lockpicking nothing happens but a sound effect and you get to repeat with no consequences is unrealistic. Same with the car lights. 3. Beating the car light section plainly got too boring. Waiting forever for the lights to change, getting caught by the previous light, such a drag. Especially when you see that the kids could just go from behind the cars but the gameplay mechanics don’t let you.
to start with the positives i think this game has a great art style. everything looks really cute and polished. i also mostly like the gameplay, especially when it comes to using the items the characters have. the big and obvious negative is the story. it feels REALLY unfinished. it’s like the writer had some big ideas but didn’t have the time or resources to finish it. when i got to the ending i thought it was a joke because of how abrupt it was and how much the tone of the ending flip flopped. there were also some plot points that were dropped in but never explained any further. i wish we could have explored the environments more. they were so cute that it was disappointing how little time we got to spend with them. the dialogue was also a bit cringe but i guess that’s just 80s slang. this game should have been longer. more time was needed to introduce the concept of the world and definitely to wrap up the end in a satisfying way. there’s some good stuff here, i just think it could use a lot of help. also some of the reviews have been complaining about “politics”. the most “political” thing in this game is non white people existing. guys i promise it’s okay for there to be a pakistani character. he won’t bite.
Let me start off by saying the game has a very nice aesthetic. That’s what drew me in in the first place, and the only reason this game has a two star review instead of one. The rest is absolutely atrocious. The story is confusing and bad. The descriptions and back stories are worthless and don’t belong, and the ending was quite simply stupid. It doesn’t seem like it even knows what it wants to be. The interface could have been worlds better. If this is a game that wants to be about finding things in an environment, why is it so zoomed out? Maybe that wouldn’t have been so noticeable if zooming didn’t take eight pinches out. Also, why not zoom into a drawer when you interact with it? You can’t really see inside it when you open it, even when scrolling around. The puzzles were also confusing and boring. They didn’t go along with the initial gimmick of the game, which was finding objects and using them from your inventory. This game could have very easily been much better, I’m really disappointed.
I really enjoy the art and style of the game but it needs some polishing. The pacing is kind of exhausting… tons of backstory with very little payoff, shoved in between every single instance of gameplay. The scenes are gorgeous and I would love more time to explore them in depth, even if the interactions were simple and not essential to the puzzles. But instead, you only get to go exactly where you need to, and the clues are only activated exactly when you need them. I know that’s sort of the schtick w an interactive novel, but after clicking thru 5 slides of narrative, it would be nice to find more than one clue at a time, etc.
The game looked very promising, the aesthetic and many of the mechanics are fantastic, but the poor story telling and shortness of actual gameplay ultimately lead to disappointment. I wanted to give this game five stars as soon as I started it, however not everything was as great as the first impression given by the game’s visuals and soundtrack. The game tries to force many different ideologies and political issues into the story in what I can only imagine as an attempt to be “progressive”, but the reality is that it ends up filling the story with more fluff than actual story. Speaking of story, there wasn’t much of one. Events seem to have no cause or effect, the plot seems to move along in the some of the least clever ways I have ever seen in a game, and to top things off I finished the game with more questions than answers. I wanted so badly to love this game, but it ends up being my first disappointment with Apple Arcade so far.
⚠️spoilers⚠️ Honestly this is a good game and I don’t at all see how people could hate on it but you do you I guess. Anyways, the story was simple and cute, and to all the people hating on it, I’m pretty sure that was the point, for it to be short and slightly morbid (considering molly’s grandmother dies half way through and molly nearly dies herself). However, I feel you could’ve made the story a bit more engaging. You could’ve possibly added a third (actually fourth) member who was sort of like the mom friend of the group, someone who keeps everyone from getting hurt (which, by the way, could’ve saved molly from being a vampire), and keeps them out of trouble. Overall, I really enjoyed playing this
I’ve literally been tweaking this radio dial for 30 min, and though it reaches the end of the sine wave as yellow, it won’t respond. The under pattern is too fast. So I tweak it the other way be nanometers and it shortens the yellow line. I can’t with this game. I wish you could lock it in or at least have a more incremental dial between 3 and 4 because it’s not able to respond well to progress any further. I’ve almost given up. I’ve finished the game. I don’t like the story and how Molly ends up and Salim is donating blood? Resolution is not good. Not my favorite game. I would not recommend. And the lame jokes about vampires, ethnicity, and people dying, and what seem to be a cute game about getting a kid’s head smashed in, and then the attacker becomes the caretaker? Come on guys, not good storytelling.
Every character in this game is as 3 dimensional as a piece of copy paper. First, you have the nerdy geek with a stutter and asthma who loves programming and computers. Next, you have the spunky ginger girl who’s a free spirit and loves to run wild.... both caricatures we have seen about ten thousand times in every media imaginable. Believe it or not, just giving people things like different ethnicities and religions don’t count as personality traits. On top of the poor character design, the story is about as boring as watching paint dry. Now I wouldn’t mind if the characters were like able, but I’ve already covered THAT. The quote on quote “puzzles” are about as challenging and exciting as folding laundry. And again, there is SO much text. It’s 10% game play, and 90% reading for I story that I have 0 interest in anyways.
A short and sweet story. The visuals were wonderful and made me want to see more of the world. The puzzles were very light and felt like they mostly existed to keep this game from being a story you tapped through and instead a story you interacted with, which I think served it well. I really enjoy the type of flow you feel from knowing exactly what a game wants from you. My only real complaint is that we didn’t get anything but narration for the ending, which gave me a little mood whiplash, but the time it took me to get there was very enjoyable. This was a great game to play on my sick day home from work. :)
There’s death, race jokes, religion jokes, and the most confusing game I’ve ever played. I’m not mad about this, these are all things I don’t really care about. I thought the race and religion jokes were funny because I’m part of the topics being joked about. The deaths did startle me a little, but I don’t care about the rest of the things noted. What I’m concerned about is how other people will view this game. People may not like these types of jokes and no one will appreciate a badly written story. Im just here to give future downloaders a warning: If you don’t like slightly offensive race and religion jokes, a bad storyline with a lot of plot holes, and/or death and violence then I don’t recommend this game.
