Fixed crash bug in Open/Practice races.
Here are some screenshots of the game.
Update: I have finished the game. It was infuriating at times, but all in all I enjoyed it. Enough that I am going to upgrade my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. I am hoping for more content as there are not enough ways to earn upgrade coins to upgrade all the cars. Be judicious in how you spend those upgrade coins. After finishing the game, I am left needing 460+ coins to finish my garage. With only on quest available per day, which earns one coin... yeah, over a year from now and I will have them all upgraded. More content PLEASE!! Old review: A fun game, but not if you are a completionist. There are a few levels that are just so unbalanced that it is near impossible to 3 star them. Some are so obstacle heavy that time is an unfair judgment. I love the play style, but honestly I have been ready to rage quit a number of times. Not worth throwing my expensive phone across the room over. I will probably end up deleting because of how hard some of the levels are, and they aren’t labeled difficult.
I dowloaded this game because I didn’t know what to download and gave this a chance on a random whim. I was taken by surprised how much I enjoyed the competitive aspect of the game and how many levels made me go back and give them another go to improve my time or best my record. The mechanics of the game are well design and give way to actual skill development. With all this being said I gave it 3 stars for a few reasons. 1 - aesthetics. The game is very “minimaly” designed as if was made by a color blind person. I understand that enemies need to stand out but a constant grey, white and black gives the game a dull feeling as you play it. 2 - Music. Oh lawrd!! the music choice is by far the worse offender. It is techno genre is enjoyable in no level. It sounds like it was composed on a synthesizer from the 70’s. It’s too high pitched. It’s like the music from wipe out but much much more high pitched. There are also no sound effects for anything that’s happening on the game so I just play it on mute. 3 - Lack of abilities or powers. When you’re on wreck mode you get to launch this “cannon ball” at the enemies and this make it fun. But that is all you get. No booster, turbos, projectiles, shields, I mean nothing that throws any added excitement to the game.
Remember that game on your old nokia phone where a ball drops through vertically scrolling platforms and you had to maneuver between staggered gaps in those platforms to keep the ball dropping? This is that same game but the ball is your car and the platforms are other moving cars and you maneuver between them. Great concept! The game becomes more difficult as you play and unlock and upgrade faster cars, again, just like that ball dropping game kept getting faster. How do you add more challenge to the game? They could have added more difficulty by making tracks with more curves or adding drift or boost mechanics like proper racing games like need for speed or asphalt do. Instead, they added difficulty with annoying pillars on the road that significantly slow you down if you hit 2-3 of them in a row. These pillars are everywhere and almost impossible to spot on a scrolling screen in topdown perspective. Add to that game modes like pursuit where other cars are intentionally bumping you into those pillars all the time and it becomes one big annoying grind to complete races. This is the lazy way to do a difficulty curve. The more you play this game, it becomes less about skill and more about luck. Add more interesting curves and more interesting driving mechanics instead of these annoying pillars.
overall, I can tell a lot of work went into this, but it all kind of comes together a little weird. the driving with both two thumbs and one feels a little too sticky, and it's totally possible to avoid stuff, but the game actually has levels where the entire point is to smash into other cars. I really expected more of a racing game for a game about racing, but it's pretty pointless to try to tighten your lines when there's randomly generated semi trucks in your way. its just kind of inconvenient. also I feel like the almost perpendicular camera angle is a pretty big oversight, it really takes a lot of the punch out of stuff. maybe moved back so it's closer to 50 degrees would be more engaging. idk i really wanna like it
Just finished all events and challenges, and man what a cool game to spend the time on. What starts out a simple racing game ends with unforeseen nuance in the differences between cars, the meaning in the event’s cars modifications, and some raw fun with the aerial vehicles. That all being said, I’ve definitely cursed the designer of certain slalom and escape events time and time again, and so I hope they’re sleeping alright. Some minor bugs and irritations mostly in the form of clipping on barriers and similar unwanted physics engine outcomes, but easy to look past on an event that took you a minute or two to complete. Thanks for the distraction from some tough times!
Speed Demons is one of the most fun games that exists for your iPhone. It’s phenomenal. I love that it’s played up & down, not horizontally. I love the cars, the traffic, the effects, the mechanics, I could go on & on, but this update on an arcade classic is one of the best-executed ideas ever to come to your device. I applaud all those involved with its development. This game alone is worth whatever an Apple Arcade subscription costs. Play at your own risk, as it is extremely addictive!
Deserves no stars. Why? Because it’s one of those games where you make a bunch of progress…and then all that progress gets wiped out because of bad coding and programming and you have to start all over again. This game has deleted my progress TWICE. I have screenshots that show I’ve completed 11/18 Achievements…and yet if I want to play I have to start from the beginning and replay every single race and challenge that I’ve already played TWICE. Seems like if you want people to play your game you wouldn’t want them to have to start over again and again. Seems like a pretty major flaw that your progress can’t be saved. So I’m deleting this garbage and moving on to something that actually works.
Graphics are good. Racing is good. The actual game play, with regard to making progress and leveling up, is garbage. Absolute rubbish. Very confusing and completely unintuitive. There is no means if simply picking up at the next thing you need to do. You have to sift through and look at your times or completions to see what you have and haven't done. And when you finish a level, there is no option to just go to the next thing. You get one option, play again. That's it. So while there are a lot of levels and the game play isn't bad, I'm not going to waste all my time trying to figure out where I left off every time I open the game. Uninstalled.
First off let’s start with the settings, personally I think people should automatically increase the sensitivity to 3. It makes it so much easier with swerving around cars. Second, the graphics, if your phone heats up very quickly you could do the 30hz it would help a lot. Finally, there is nothing else to really say other than this game is a great one. It is something that you could definitely use when you are bored.
Graphics and course are really great. Good level of difficulty, but the controls are very unstable. I’m playing on an iPad Pro (2020) and as soon as I touch the screen, the car will veer sharply down to the bottom of the screen. I spend most of the time swiping up to the top bezel just to try to keep the car straight. My fingers often slip off the top of the screen as I try to keep the car straight or turn left. If the controls would be more predictable, this game would be so much better. I hope this gets resolved!
