Here are some screenshots of the game.
To be honest, I kinda like this game a bit it’s fun like the original but I prefer the original more it was more fun and challenging and how things were done. This one is different I’m tryna like it more but the thing about it is that it’s a lot harder than the original takes a while to solve the puzzles unless I look them up, and it takes a lot time I wanted this for my 3ds, since I Heard- there’s professor Layton games for the 3ds. I might still want it but it’s kind of pointless still tryna get into it.
As someone who played these games on the DS, the app versions have stayed true to the original Layton games and I love them! I’ve replayed all of the first three Prof. Layton games and all the fun and magic is still there. With this new addition to the story, the feel of the game is the same! The puzzles that ask you to think outside the box, the movie scenes that keep you involved in a story, and the characters that are constantly confounded by Layton’s wit! I enjoyed every bit of this, and I hope we get another chapter to tie up some very important loose ends. I also hope we get the other three original Layton games!
Maybe it’s because I’m new to the Layton world, but I absolutely adored this game. Katrielle is a treat, the tone is silly but likable, and the story is quirky in an endearing way. And then when you consider the mobile phone format I think it’s really well suited. It’s very pick up for a bit, get through a portion, put down again friendly, in the way you want mobile games to be. I don’t necessarily want a full commitment type of game on my phone (or iPad) and this was a good mix where I could play for 8 hours straight, or just for 30 minutes. There are some quirks in the UI that could’ve been handled better, and I found the lack of ability to play in a landscape mode odd. But not enough to detract from my enjoyment. Actually makes me want to go try out the other Layton games, though based on other reviews I’m worried they have less story to them…
I’ve bought and played the Layton games in Nintendo before and absolutely loved them. The puzzles were challenging and finding hidden coins and puzzles. I was so excited to see this new game and I can’t bring myself to play anymore. I’ve got to a total of 7 puzzles in over an hour because if the constant story that is not only uninteresting but unnecessary. There’s no way to skip and could be at beat two or three speech bubbles. I just timed me having to constantly two the screen to skip through the chat after puzzle 7 for 6 minutes just to get to the next puzzle. Very very disappointing
The opening cut scene was just black with text (on iPhone). I don’t mind the dialogue and story. Even if it was cheesy. However, the clicking mechanism was annoying. Why show the ability to move on the map, then pull up the track screen just so you have to close the track screen? Also, the puzzles have horrible directions. The solution to the ladder one made no sense based upon the directions. Most the puzzles were bad up to that point, so I decided to stop playing. I was really looking forward to this game, as I loved the original.
I like everything about this puzzle game, except for the puzzle part. I couldn’t get past the first level, even with every single hint!! 😔 which is awful because I would love this game, the graphics are beautiful, the stories fun, just the puzzles are way too difficult! Unplayable game, just keep working at it, and maybe it’ll reach my expectations. 🫶🏻
This port of a 3SD classic is fantastic. The puzzles are a great challenge and it has a cozy and warm aesthetic and atmosphere. I noticed a lot of the reviews are complaining about the story in the game, and while it is a bit silly, its cute overall. This isn’t a typical puzzle only iOS or iPad game. It’s a port of a $40 3DS and Switch game, so go in expecting a classic game with story connecting the puzzles together.
The stories are interesting and most of the puzzles are fun. There are a few where the answer is ridiculous, but they’re logical and enjoyable for the most part. Plus the other mini game features add a lot to the game, and it’s always great to have “collectibles”
This game does not keep the faith of the original game. Half the puzzles don’t make any sense, and to even get to one of them you have to click through half a novel. Even the story feels hollow. The “mysteries” are very boring, like “who stole a piece of film during a movie?”. I have replayed the last Layton games multiple times and I couldn’t even get through half of this one. It really bums me out to have to leave a review like this but I wanted to make sure other people don’t waste their time.
Layton fans will feel right at home with this one. There’s definitely a lot of dialogue, the puzzles can definitely be challenging and seem deceptive. If you’re looking for a charming, cozy visual novel, with clever puzzles, and quirky character design I can’t recommend this enough!
