I played the original flash game for Detective Grimoire way back when I was a kid, and then the first commercial release a few years ago. Honestly, at some point I think I just lost hope for a sequel, but I was more than plenty surprised to see it pop up on my feed a few days ago. Brilliant game with an incredibly written story and engaging characters. The puzzles are not difficult, but they do require some level of thinking (though the magnifying key puzzle had me stuck for quite some time - managed to brute force it after a dozen or so tries, but it was pretty frustrating). The highlights of the game are definitely the writing and the voice acting. The soundtrack was also appropriately spooky when necessary. I rarely keep the sound on when I play games, but for both Grimoire games, I’ve found myself keeping the audio on purely due to how masterfully executed it is. This game is worth an Apple Arcade subscription all by itself, in my opinion. It’s pretty much what pushed me over the edge to begin the trial to begin with, and if the upcoming games Apple has sponsored are even marginally as good, I’ll probably keep up with the subscription as well.
Incredible design and thought put into this game. Interesting puzzles that had me stumped for a while, but make you excited when you piece together the clues. Nice, fluid animations and great voice acting. I’d recommend anybody play this game at least once. One of the best mobile games I’ve ever played. Never touched the original, but I’ll sure go check it out onc I’ve finished this. The only reason I give it four stars? Well, the ending. Spoiler alert here, if you’re not finished, please stop reading here. So, at the end of the game, after your heroes find out the truth, it all ends somewhat abruptly. The criminal gets away with the murder. You get that sort of disappointed feeling, at least for a bit. You spent all that time to catch them only for them to get away. But that’s not the main problem with the ending. It’s the lack of replay ability. There is nothing to do once you beat the game. Sure, you can go play the original game (which costs money). Once you beat that, where do go? This isn’t a big flaw, as this comes naturally with any puzzle game with a story driven like this one, but once you’ve completed this game, you just kind of put it on your back catalog. The other flaw is the characters. There’s so much potential for the characters limited by the story. Some of the characters also seem a bit flat, while others don’t get enough screen time.
I’m not going to lie here, this was the BEST game I have ever played. From the story and the plot twists to the voting and animation, this game kept me on edge the whole time! I am astonished at how incredible this game is! I can’t even begin to put it into words. First off, I’m in love with the animation style. Each of the characters are uniquely designed and the hand-drawn feeling to it all make it very pleasing to look at. The story was very enticing and had many plot twists which made for a really great thrill! The game mechanics are very simple and I absolutely love the find, discover, and piece together aspect. Also, THE BANTER! I love the little bits of sarcasm and humor scattered within the game. It makes the characters feel much more realistic and, of course, adds a funny aspect to the game. The voice acting is also incredible! When I first started playing, I had my volume off, but after a minute or two I turned it on. I was very happy to hear the characters voices, which aligned perfectly with what I imagined! Overall, this game is a fantastic game for anyone who loves to solve puzzles and explore. I’m in awe of such an amazing game! 👏👏👏
okay, I was bored, I downloaded it expecting it to be meh. But I started and was immediately intrigued. Once I started I didn’t put it down for days. (Well, not literally.) The art for the game is stunning, and the characters are really amazing. It felt more like watching a good show than playing a game. The story line is incredible, and very interesting. Really keeps you engaged the whole time. It triggered emotions subtly, and isn't at all like a typical murder mystery. The story is so much more than that, and always has a new thing leaving you with questions. The puzzles are somewhat (sometimes very) challenging and confusing, but it really is worth the time. Idk. To me it’s just the right amount of eerie, beautiful, detailed and well put together. Also, the jokes aren’t all that bad, and I got very attached to the characters. Maybe I’m just feeling emotional this week, but this game is the first game that I find really amazing and more my speed than most other games. Anyway, if you couldn’t tell, I like this app, and I would recommend.
After finishing this relatively short but fun point and click detective adventure I find myself having enjoyed the experience but wishing there where some things that where different. The character, environment, sound and story where all really well done but I felt the puzzles could of been improved upon. Some of the puzzles where simple enough to figure out without any hints but some of the puzzles where complicated and time consuming. The only way to get a hint for the majority of the puzzles is to click the finish icon when you think you have solved it or get stuck. A few of the puzzles would’ve benefitted from getting that information before hand. None of the puzzles where overly complicated or difficult but some of them where so basic I ended up overthinking them. There was one puzzle that I think could’ve been retuned such as the leaf puzzle which I won’t elaborate on further. Definitely worth spending the time and seeing the world of this game, overall very enjoyable.
This is a fun little game. It reminded me of the Professor Layton series of games on the DS/3DS. The art style sort of reminded me of something from a Tim Burton sketch. I enjoyed the art for the characters, the settings and backgrounds. The voice acting was done well. No glitches to speak of. You spend more time collecting clues and talking to people than solving puzzles but the balance was fine, the puzzles challenging enough, the story fleshed out enough. And by the end, there was still enough that I didn’t have figured out to keep it enjoyable. They didn’t over-explain every detail and left some things touched on but a bit of a mystery. And the length was just enough but it did leave me wanting more, in a good way. Def recommend and I would def consider playing any other games in this series. It doesn’t need a sequel for this story, but I would enjoy one with a different story/setting nonetheless. I enjoyed my time with this game from the beginning and am left satisfied. Would recommend.
Now this game is pretty good if I do say so myself. I’m a fan of a good story and this game delivers with a satisfying ending that has a little up for interpretation. I’m also a fan of the artwork of this game, it’s pleasant to look at and really cute to boot. Questioning people doesn’t even feel like a grind, it’s super interesting and entertaining to see how they react to the clues you present to them. This game is flat out charming (for the most part) There is one puzzle at the final act of the game that is really hard and complicated ( probably because I don’t play a lot of puzzle games) you’ll know it when you see it. Early review 9/10 everything is perfect I only wish there was more replay value spoiler warning for the rest of the review The murderer being penny isn’t that unexpected but the twist of detective hawkshaw being penny is crazy to be fair. Penny is the villain but she’s still human witch I really like. She’s not evil just broken. Being the bottom of the barrel she only what’s to be excepted by people. She is a afterthought at the tower and is disappointed when she finds out the five that left the tower are separated, off doing there own thing. It’s satisfying to get an explanation on the craziness of the basement rooms and the study. There is tons of potential to make a detect sequel to this game. It breaks my heart not knowing what happens to some the characters. #fififorheadpats
This game is a treat for a lifelong lover of adventure games like me. It’s been my favorite genre since childhood, and it’s a delight to find a game with such lavish and loving detail. The art is BEAUTIFUL, and the game features interesting characters whose voices are beautifully acted. While I am personally finding the puzzles a bit easy, the game is fun and never loses my attention. The careful and thorough effort into building out details in this world makes up for what seems to be a fairly limited map. Almost everything you look at elicits responses from the main characters, which I just love—it’s kind of rare, anymore, to find a game that has put in the time and money to write and record so many extra lines. It makes me feel immersed in the points of view of our detectives, and encourages me to linger over the GORGEOUS art in every scene. This game is a charmer that reminds me why I prefer adventure games over any other!
I like to download a lot of murder mystery games for fun. when I downloaded this I don’t know what I was expecting, BUT IT WAS 10 TIMES BETTER! I’m not sure why but I’m glad this game is free! first of all, the character and setting designs were amazing! I was thinking that all throughout the game and I thought that how they let you see their process with coming up with them at the end was very interesting. second of all, you don’t lose lives, or have to watch any adds or pay to move on! I have so much respect for that. third of all, there was never really any times where I was stuck and if I was it was easy to move on. the puzzles weren’t too hard nor too easy and i loved it! fourth of all, the story was very intriguing and the main characters were very likable. overall I LOVE THIS GAME! I wish I could give it a rating over 5!
UPDATE!! I WENT BACK INTO MY GAME TODAY AND EVERYTHING WAS RESTORED!!!! This is the first ever game I’ve ever played on a phone that I enjoyed. I absolutely loved it and the voice acting was so well done as well as the art!! I would of given this 5 stars but an unfortunate glitch or error occurred while I was literally in the final moment of the game. Usually when you exit out of the game on an unfinished scene it will start you back where you left off. But in the final scene when I exited out of the game it completely deleted all of my progress in the game starting me back at the beginning. Although I figured it out early in the game who the murderer was I really would of liked to see it play out. I could replay the game and probably get through it really quick I just don’t want to go through all of that again. AMAZING GAME AND DEFINITELY RECOMMEND PLAYING IT!!
