Tue Jun 16 2020 Tha Sanga4* for storyline. Controls are where this game falls short. It’s too stiff. It doesn’t flow..... please fix! The shooting should be able to go 360 in a flowing motion when you hold it. It gets stuck too much. Please fix or give more control options thanks

Thu Mar 11 2021 shadowwakeI’ve seen a lot of criticism of this game directed towards exactly what it’s trying to be. This is an NES style shooter, such as Contra, gameplay wise (plays more like a SNES game actually) — in the vein of a He-Man cartoon, story wise. Eight way controls are because it’s a d-pad game, meant to be played on a d-pad. I do not recommend playing this game without a Bluetooth controller.
My only wish is that it had two player co-op couch mode, like the old Contra did. I subscribed to Apple Arcade to play Shantae, but she’s taken a back burner to SPIDERSAURS. I’m excited with this Wayforward release and look forward to more iOS goodness from the company.

Fri Sep 20 2019 msantiago1256This is my first arcade game review. I’ve now downloaded about 20 or so games and many have been good or even great but this was the first game that just blew me away. I played on an iPad pro with an Xbox controller and wow. It felt like any modern console would. The voice acting was amazing too. I just wish the dialogue would flow without me needing to hit the button over and over.
The action is great. The controls great. The graphics... well you get it. The whole package.

Fri Sep 27 2019 Siamese605I don’t understand why game creators think people want to sit through 15 minutes of random story set up dialogue with mediocre voice acting just to play a simple platformer. By the time I finally got to the game, I was highly irritated, and played the game for about 30 seconds before deciding it all just wasn’t worth it. When I open a game, I want to play a game, not read and listen to a non-animated cartoon for an unreasonably long time first. I have a reading list of literature that is worth that time that I haven’t read yet. This is a platform game, not a Hemingway novel. Stay in your lane, guys.
This is NO Shantae
Thu Mar 12 2020 bUsh7D8Clearly the developer can make great old school side scrolling games, because their Shantae the Genie games are some of the best on mobile, but the same love and attention was not given to this game. To be fair, I did not play much past the tutorial, but the cut scenes are copious and the dialogue is atrocious, then the game play reminds me of those cheesy old Flash-based computer games, and not in a good way. This could have been SO much better, and I’ve seen other reviews compare this to Contra, but this is certainly no Contra. Even if you subscribe to Apple Arcade, this game is a waste of your time. Don’t play it.

Sun Sep 29 2019 JikifreakI love the classic late 80s early 90s style animation and acting! It is spot on with the way it was almost 30 years ago. I am an 80s kid, and cartoons in this style were just like back in my day. I used to record cartoons on VHS or BetaMax and the quality was just like the game. Kudos to the makers! They must be my age (40s). The game itself is like Contra and Metal Slug together. It is meant to be played with a controller. I use either my PS4 or Nimbus, and it is perfect! Great job team!

It’s also just different enough to not be a total ripoff. The only thing missing IMO is only multiplayer. Wish I could give 4.5 stars...but if i have to lean one way or the other, im gonna go ahead & give them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ GG!

From the previews I can see that gameplay looks like it’s styled off of contra or something similar while shantae is a metroidvania. Visually it looks stunning and am hoping my predictions are correct on gameplay

Sat Sep 28 2019 OkieWolfThis could be a good game. But I have to agree with some of the other reviews that the dialog is WAY too much and it ruins the game. Also the controls are very clunky and not very responsive. Because of these reasons I can't get passed the tutorial and will be deleting the game. Why create an unplayable game? The game could be a good game but it definitely needs much less dialog and a lot of work on the controls.
Move it to Console!
